General Information

  • "Talk" or "Discussion" pages are useful for many different things, including noting a poorly documented function or giving other users some other tricks from their experience. There is a discussion page for every article page in the wiki, thus only entering information pertaining to the article for which the discussion page is linked will help keep things nice and organized.

  • Anyone can enter text on a "talk" page. Wikis have a few nice tricks for making text formatting easy. The purpose of this page is to give the user some examples of how to format a talk page

  • After the "discussion" link is clicked, there is a text box present where you can begin typing immediately. To preview the page click the "Show preview" button at the bottom of the page. To save the changes, click "Save page" when you are done.

Formatting

There is a formatting bar that is given at the top of every talk page. This can be used to accomplish the same features as listed below.

Headers

The wiki supports various header types which are defined by putting 1 to 6 equal signs on either side of the word(s). An automatic table of contents will also be created based on headers. Sub-headers are also allowed.

For example: ===Headers=== creates what you see above, while ==Formatting== creates what is seen above the Headers section.

Bulleted Lists

You can make a bulleted list by using a * or a numbered list by using a #

For example:

  • Item 1
  • Item 2
  • Item 3

Links

Links are everywhere in this wiki and can be done simply by adding 2 brackets around the desired page name.

For example: [[abs]] creates abs which links to the absolute value function page.

Breaks

Breaks can be a useful way of separating who entered what and can be created by putting four minus signs together on its own line.

For example: ---- creates the line seen below.

Time Stamp

Adding a day and time to your comment is very helpful. Simply add 5 ~ on their own line to add a date and time.

For example: ~~~~~ creates the time stamp seen below.

17:30, 29 March 2006 (MST)
